The Kerala Gandhi Smark Nidhi started functioning in 1951 as state unit of the all India Gandhi Memorial Trust.  Since 1962, it became an autonomous institution with vital constitutional links with the Parent Body.  The state unit now has a general body which elects its managing committee which is nonsectarian, voluntary setup, pledged to carry out the programmes and ideals propounded by Mahatma Gandhi.
